MCI sanctions additional 300 seats for PG courses

The Medical Council of India has sanctioned 300 additional seats in postgraduate courses being offered through various medical colleges in Tamil Nadu. The additional seats will be filled from the forthcoming academic year 2017-18, said C. Vijaya Baskar, Minister for Health.

Speaking after declaring open the primary health centre at Madhiyanallur near here on Saturday, the Minister said an estimated 5,000 population would benefit through the hospital built at an estimate of ₹75 lakh.

He said 250 specialists would be appointed in all government hospitals in the State. This apart, 1,223 doctors would be recruited and posted at various government hospitals.

S. Ganesh, Collector, presided over the function.

Earlier, the Minister inspected the food being supplied at the Amma Canteen in Pudukottai. He also declared open an inspection bungalow at Iluppur.
