Toll free number 1098 for complaints on child marriage

The district administration has made elaborate arrangements to ensure regular and adequate supply of drinking water during summer .

The district administration has commissioned a toll free phone number 1077 for receiving complaints regarding problems in drinking water supply and blocks in water taps and pipelines.

Officials would initiate immediate action to solve the problem and ensure supply , said Jayashree Muralidharan, Collector, while speaking at the mass contact programme at Periyakaruppu panchayat union elementary school on Tuesday.

The district administration has also initiated various steps to put an end to child marriages.

People who have information about girls below 18 years of age being pushed into wedlock, could pass on the information to officials through the toll free phone number 1098.

Immediate action would be to prevent such marriages. The complainants are not required to disclose their identity or phone number and strict secrecy would be maintained , the Collector said. Referring to the implementation of farmers’ protection scheme, she said that assistance is provided for the marriage of girls, old age pension, and accident relief. The farmers should take advantage of the scheme; she said and urged them to enrol themselves as members.

She said that eight overhead water tanks have been constructed in Periyakaruppur village for the supply of protected drinking water. Moreover, Rs. 65 lakhs has been spent for relaying roads, implementing health programmes, and maintenance of streetlights, Ms. Muralidharan said.

Replying to the plea of Alagesan, Anthanallur panchayat union chairman, and Andi, Periyakaruppur village panchayat president, for the creation of a sanitary complex in the village and removing silt from the Agneeswarar temple tank, the Collector assured to undertake the works soon.

Ms. Muralidharan gave away benefits worth Rs.2.83 lakhs to 318 beneficiaries.

The Information and Public Relations Department had organised a photo exhibition in connection with the programme. Officials of various departments participated.
