Air Wing National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets of Tiruchi have brought laurels to the region by winning several trophies and medals, including the Best Technical Air Squadron Trophy for 2013, at the 10-day special inter-group competition, Vayu Sainik Camp, which concluded at Periyar Maniammai University, Vallam, on Monday.
Gold and silver medals in rifle firing competition were won by M. Vijaya Santhi of Seethalakshmi Ramaswami College and Nandakumar of National College respectively.
Air Squadron cadets from Bishop Heber College bagged the gold in aero modelling competition by flying the fastest aircraft model. The 3 Tamil Nadu Air Squadron won the gold cup in tent pitching and silver medal in line area and skeet shooting competitions.
Prizes were distributed to winning cadets by N. Ramachandran, Vice-Chancellor, Periyar Maniammai University, and N. Thinakaran, Group Captain. One hundred and sixty eight cadets from six Air Squadrons in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry participated in the special camp. The annual training camp for NCC cadets of six colleges and six schools in the region was held in conjunction with the special camp, according to a release.
