Tiruchi student attempts to commit suicide

December 20, 2013 10:59 am | Updated 10:59 am IST - TIRUCHI:

A first year undergraduate science student of a private college near the Chathiram bus stand here attempted to commit suicide by jumping from the third floor of the college hostel on Wednesday.

The 18-year-old student resorted to this step after he was allegedly tormented by his hostel mates after a mobile phone belonging to one of them went missing. The student who sustained injury on his forehead was admitted to the Government hospital from where he was referred to a private hospital in the city.

The Fort Police have named three students — all first year — as accused on a complaint preferred by the injured student.

Police sources said the complainant and the accused were staying in the same room in the college hostel. The accused suspected the complainant and allegedly tormented the latter after a mobile phone belonging to one of them went missing.

Disturbed over this, the affected student leaped out from the third floor of the hostel to end his life. A case has been registered under IPC sections 109 IPC (punishment of abetment) read with 309 (attempt to commit suicide).
