November 28, 2014 10:00 am | Updated 10:00 am IST - TIRUCHI:

A prisoner lodged in Tiruchi Central Prison escaped from police escort by jumping out of an express train near Kalaburagi in Karnataka in the early hours of Thursday while being brought back.

S. Dhavamani, 28, was taken from the Tiruchi jail on November 24 and produced before a court in Pune in connection with a murder case booked against him last year in the Shivaji Nagar police station.

He was escorted by an Armed Reserve Police team headed by a Sub-Inspector.

After being produced before the court, the prisoner was brought back by an express train.

Same old tactic

Police said Dhavamani under the pretext of going to the toilet jumped out of the coach when the train slowed down and escaped.

The escort team informed the local police in Karnataka and also conveyed the matter to jail authorities.

Dhavamani was also allegedly involved in the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission question paper leak case, the police said.

He was initially lodged in the Cuddalore Central Prison from where he was shifted to the Tiruchi prison in November last year.
