The city police has asked residents not to get tricked by conmen who claim to polish jewellery and remain vigilant against such persons. A press release from the Tiruchirapalli city police here said instances of youths, especially north Indians visiting houses claiming to polish jewels by using chemical substance and handing over the valuables with lesser weight to the owners had been occurring in the recent past.

There have been instances wherein those claiming to polish jewels had escaped with the valuables by diverting the attention of the public.

Appealing to the public to remain alert, the release asked the residents to desist from giving their valuables for polishing to the conmen. It urged the public to pass on information against those who claim to polish jewels to the nearby police station either in person or over phone or inform the police control room by dialling 100. The release appealed to the residents to extend their cooperation in preventing such crimes.
