The city police have taken to social media and messaging tools to connect with city residents and receive information from them.
WhatsApp, the mobile phone messaging application, and Facebook, an online social networking service, are the two new generation modes that have been used by the city police to reach out to the public.
The city police announced a dedicated mobile number 9626273399 to receive information from public through Whatsapp.
A team of police officers would be entrusted with the task of monitoring information received through the WhatsApp from public round-the-clock and disseminate them to the officers concerned immediately.
Quick response“We have opened up to public to receive information and respond swiftly on them,” Commissioner of Police Shailesh Kumar Yadav said.
Public could pass on information pertaining to crimes, criminals, road accidents, and traffic hold ups through these new generation modes, Mr. Yadav told presspersons at the City Police Office here on Friday.
Another team of police personnel would monitor the information received in the Facebook account of the Tiruchi City Police – coptrc@gmail.com, Mr. Yadav said.
The city police had decided to make use of the technology to obtain information from the residents, he said and added that the identity of persons passing on the information would be protected.
CCTVsA monitoring mechanism would be put in place at police stations falling within the city limits with the installation of closed circuit television (CCTV) units.
Three CCTVs would be installed in each police station to monitor the functioning of police personnel and those of the visitors. The detection of cases reported in city police limits was 90 per cent, while it was 89 per cent on the recovery side.
On the traffic front, he said road accidents showed a slightly increasing trend in the city limits this year. Most accidents happened on the highways, the Commissioner said.
