Tiruchi District Pensioners Association has urged the State government to provide 50 per cent fare concession in Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation buses to senior citizens taking cue from Karnataka and Maharashtra. A resolution to this effect was adopted at a meeting of the association held here recently. Another resolution said that when a pensioner dies in the State, pension for that month is given to him only till the day when his last rites are performed. But in Kerala, pension is provided for the whole month irrespective of the date on which the pensioner passes away. Similar system should be followed in Tamil Nadu.

K. Palaniandi, district president, explained the steps taken by the association for getting government order on the Supreme Court judgment and for holding the 44th anniversary in a fitting manner. T. Rajappa, secretary, presented the report.
