The Tiruchi international airport has emerged on top among “non-major” airports in the country in a nationwide survey conducted in 2014.

The airport was adjudged the best based on various parameters taken into account during the course of the airport services quality survey that was conducted twice last year. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) had commissioned two independent agencies to carry out the annual survey in all the airports across the country.

While one agency was entrusted with the task of carrying out the survey in major airports, the other agency was given the job of executing the exercise in non-major airports.

Accordingly, the customer satisfaction survey was done twice – one between January and June and the second between June and December. A team from the agency inspected non-major airports including Tiruchi during this period and looked into various parameters to eventually judge the best one.

The agency had set 33 parameters including passenger facilities, car parking area, cleanliness, ambience, availability of flight information system, feeling of safety and security of travellers and shopping facility to rate the airports.

The Tiruchi international airport secured a total score of 4.70 out of 5 in the survey to emerge on top in the non-major airports category, Airport Director B.C.H. Negi told The Hindu .

The agency’s report was handed over to the AAI corporate headquarters at New Delhi consequent to the completion of the survey.

The AAI had recently sent a communication to the Airport Director conveying the top position Tiruchi airport had secured in the airport services quality survey.

Mr. Negi accompanied by Deputy General Manager (Air Traffic Services) K. Jebaraj would receive the award at a function to be held at New Delhi on April 1 – the annual day of AAI.

The Tiruchi airport from where overseas flights to Colombo, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Dubai are operated every day touched 11.90 lakh mark recently in the total number of passengers handled in the 2014-15 financial year.
