Tiruchi Mayor’s help sought in saving park site

Over 100 residents of Kattur Balaji Nagar approached Mayor A. Jaya on Monday seeking her intervention for recovering land meant for public purpose that was fenced by an individual claiming ownership on Sunday.

Furnishing 10 supporting documents to buttress their stand that the land was meant for a park, the delegation led by residents’ association president M. Anandan and general secretary M. Shanmugam urged the Tiruchirapalli City Corporation to intervene and prevent the individual from taking possession of the land.

According to residents, the documents provided enough evidence to prove that the property was fictitiously registered in the name of the individual in the sub-registrar’s office and was at variance with the original layout. The association had made representations to the Collector, the Superintendent of Police, and the Chief Minister’s Special Cell through registered post.

Prior to possessing the land, the Tiruverumbur police who dealt with the issue had advised the individual against staking claim to the land before the outcome of the case in the court. Last month, based on a representation by the residents’ association apprehending forcible occupation by the individual, the Assistant Commissioner of Ponmalai Zone had inspected the spot and assured the petitioners of safeguarding the land, sources said.
