Tiruchi Mahila Court convicts family of three

Case of rape and criminal intimidation in Manapparai.

The Mahila Court here convicted on Thursday three persons of a family in a case of rape and criminal intimidation.

According to the prosecution, S.Mohan (27) of Muthupudaiyanpatti village near Manapparai, a postgraduate in engineering, raped a girl but refused to marry her as promised. The youth, along with his father Sangi Kounder (58) and mother Nallammal (54), threatened to murder the girl when she pressed Mohan to marry her. The incident took place in April 2011.

Based on the girl’s complaint , the All Woman Police station at Manapparai registered a case against the trio.

A.K.A. Rahman, Second Additional District Judge holding full additional charge of Mahila Court, upheld the charges against Mohan and his parents. The Judge awarded 12 years imprisonment to the youth and a fine of Rs.1 lakh under Sec 376 IPC (rape). The judge also awarded one year imprisonment and a fine of Rs.5,000 under Sec 506 (ii) IPC for criminal intimidation, both sentences to run concurrently.

The parents were each awarded one year imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 5,000.
