Children who participated in various programmes given certificates
Prizes were awarded to the winners of various competitions during the valedictory function of Librarians Day held in the district central library here on Friday.
The library branches in Thuriayur and Manaparai were declared to have the highest number of members and patrons, and donors respectively at the taluk central library level. At the branch level, Ellurpatti, Keerambur, and Puthur emerged winners with maximum number of members, patrons, and donors respectively. At the rural level, Paapakurichi, Neikulam, and Ayyapannagar were winners with maximum number of members, patrons, and donors respectively. Quiz competition winners, and persons who submitted research articles were given congratulatory certificates for their efforts. Children, who had dressed up as famous personalities on the Librarians Day on August 12, were also given certificates.
Chief whip R. Manoharan, who was the chief guest, spoke about the importance of libraries and said that they had become an integral part of people’s lives today.
He added that the Chief Minister was putting all efforts to make the Tiruchi district central library as prominent as the Connemara library in Chennai.
“An amount of Rs. 50 lakh was sanctioned by the Chief Minister to improve facilities at the library. About Rs. 5 lakh had been allotted for the children’s section and Rs. 4 lakh for differently-abled section. Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology will be introduced soon, which will help in locating books,” said A.P. Sivakumar, district library officer.
“The Chief Minister’s wish is to digitise every library in the State and she is taking necessary steps towards this end. An amount of Rs. 6 lakh has been sanctioned from the MP local area development fund to develop the district central library,” said P. Kumar, M.P.
