In a complex surgery, doctors of Kauvery Medical Centre have performed a hand replacement surgery to a 43-year-old carpenter Panneerselvam, whose hand was chopped off.

He was brought to Kauvery Hospital in Cantonment with his hand chopped off at the wrist in an incident of crime. He was immediately operated upon by a group of doctors attached to Kauvery Hospital Hand Injury and Micro Surgical Unit. The hand was subsequently reattached along with the tendons, bones, nerve and blood vessels after eight hours of surgery.

In a press briefing, S. Skanda of Hand Injury and Micro Surgical Unit said that almost two months had passed since the completion of surgery.

The patient had recovered well. It was the third surgery within a span of about one year.
