National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets of Tiruchi Group, who represented Tamil Nadu NCC Directorate in the Republic Day Camp in New Delhi last month, and those who took part in other all-India camps during 2013-14, were honoured here on Sunday.

A total number of 17 cadets from Tiruchi Group attended the Republic Day Camp and 17 others took part in Thal Sainik Camps (TSC) held for boys and girls separately, while eight cadets attended Vayu Sainik Camp (VSC).

Tamil Nadu State team secured the first position at the VSC and third at the TSC for boys. Tamil Nadu NCC Directorate came sixth at the Republic Day Camp.

The felicitation ceremony was marked by distribution of prizes to cadets. Handing over the prizes at Jamal Mohamed College, its correspondent A.K. Khaja Nazeemudeen said NCC training moulds the personality of cadets and instils confidence into them.

Permanent instructional staff of the defence services and associate NCC officers of various educational institutions were also honoured for guiding and motivating the cadets.

Colonel A. Anil, Group Commander, NCC Group Tiruchi, delivered the felicitation address.

Commanding officers of various NCC units were present at the function that also featured cultural programmes by the cadets.

Consisting of nine battalions spread across 13 districts, Tiruchi NCC Group trains over 20,000 cadets every year.
