Tiruchi East RTO starts functioning

It has been allocated TN 81 code

June 23, 2013 01:37 pm | Updated 01:37 pm IST - TIRUCHI:

The newly created Tiruchi East Regional Transport Office (RTO) has begun functioning following bifurcation of RTO Tiruchi.

The Tiruchi East office is functioning in a rented building at Sanjeevi Nagar in Devadhanam area with 10 staff deployed initially including a Motor Vehicle Inspector.

Consequent to the bifurcation, the existing RTO office at Pirattiyur on the Tiruchi-Dindigul National Highway would be known as Tiruchi West. The Regional Transport Officer of Tiruchi West has been asked to hold additional charge for Tiruchi East office for the time being.

The State government by an order issued last year bifurcated the RTO Tiruchi into two offices — RTO Tiruchi West and Tiruchi East — for administrative convenience and to cope with sharp rise in vehicle density within the city limits.

The government had notified the areas in the city that would fall within the jurisdictions of RTO Tiruchi West and Tiruchi East respectively and sanctioned staff including a Regional Transport Officer for the new office.

Following the bifurcation, the Tiruchi East RTO will have under its jurisdiction Palakkarai, Teppakulam, Rockfort, Ariyamangalam, Melakalkandarkottai, Bharathidasan University, and the Unit Office at Tiruverumbur on the city’s outskirts.

The Tiruchi West RTO will have under its limits Woraiyur, Ponmalai, Airport, Thennur, Thillainagar, Jamal Mohamed College, K.K. Nagar, Khaja Nagar, and the Unit Office at Manapparai.

The new office, which started functioning from June 20, will issue learner’s licence, driving licences, registration certificates, fitness certificates, and permits.

A senior Transport Department official told The Hindu that the registration code for the new vehicles registered at the Tiruchi East office will be TN – 81, while those getting registered at the Unit Office in Tiruverambur will be TN -81Z. The new office has started issuing learner’s licences.

With the creation of a new office, the number of RTOs in the district has increased to three – Tiruchi West, Tiruchi East, and Srirangam. The new office will substantially reduce the work load on the staff and benefit public, the official said.

The Tiruchi West and East offices would come under the administrative control of the Deputy Transport Commissioner, Tiruchi.

Another official said the new Unit Office at Musiri had become functional a few days ago. It would have jurisdiction over Musiri and Thottiyam taluks and serve the needs of the public of the two taluks.

Headed by a Motor Vehicle Inspector Grade – 1, the Musiri office will issue driving licences, registration certificates, fitness certificates, and its renewal and collect motor vehicles tax. It will come under the control of the RTO Srirangam.

The registration code for new vehicles registered at the Musiri unit office will be TN 48 AZ. This is the fourth unit office in the district with the other three unit offices already functioning at Tiruverambur, Manapparai, and Thuraiyur.
