Tiruchi district branch of Tamil Nadu Government Doctor's Association (TNGDA) has demanded disciplinary action against the Deputy Director, Health Services, Tiruchi district, for pressing charges against two medical health officers at primary health care centres in the district.
In a district general body meeting held this week, the district branch of the TNGDA has said the DDHS has abused his power by pressing charges against two medical officers under 17 B of Tamil Nadu Government Servants Association.
While the charges against a doctor at Sirugambur PHC have been made on the grounds of availing of medical leave, the charges against the Kulumani PHC doctor are quite vague, said Selvapandian, president of the association in a press release.
The association has further noted that only the Director of Public Health is authorised to press these charges under 17 B.
Availing of medical leave without permission is not against rules. In view of fever and dengue season, doctors at PHCs are overworked and it is normal to avail of leave under genuine reasons.
In the same meeting, the association also demanded withdrawal of an order by the dean of K.A.P.Viswanathan Medical College deputing 11 senior professors from various specialties to visit the central prison every week to treat prisoners.
Noting that medical officers are posted in the central prison for preliminary investigations, the association said the deputation of specialists was unwarranted in the absence of facilities for specialised treatment in the central prison.
Government doctors will refrain from registering exit through biometric attendance, in keeping with a resolution taken by the TNGDA. The biometric attendance system was introduced recently at government hospitals.
