All panchayat union offices in the district have been given free test kits to check the quality of drinking water supplied to the people as part of the Drinking Water Safety Week campaign.
While awareness rallies are being organised in district capitals on the first day of the campaign, which kicked off on Thursday, the rallies will be held at the panchayat unions on Friday.
On Saturday, water samples provided by people would be tested through the test kits and results announced in places of public congregation.
On Sunday, the water quality would be tested in all drinking water sources in rural and urban areas, according to an official release.
District Collector Jayashree Muralidharan flagged off the awareness rally in the city on Thursday as part of the campaign and marched along with Mayor A. Jaya and Corporation Commissioner V.P. Thandapani to sensitise people to the importance of quality of drinking water.
Students of various schools and colleges participated in the rally taken out from Mambazhasalai in Srirangam to the Bishop Heber Secondary School at Teppakulam.
