The district panchayat council meeting held here on Monday witnessed councillors voicing concern over the poor drinking water supply in their wards.
Official apathy towards their plea on addressing drinking water crisis has aggravated the problem, the councillors said.
The officials had turned a blind eye to my request for a borewell in my ward, Pazhanisamy, a councillor from Vaiyampatti ward, said.
Rangarajan from the Pullampadi ward said the panchayat union is yet to respond to his plea for digging a 200-feet borewell in his ward for combating drought during summer.
T. Rajathi, district panchayat president, said that a majority of panchayat unions did not extend cooperation to the district panchayat. She had even planned to go on a day’s token hunger strike urging the panchayat unions to be responsive to the district panchayat’s proceedings.
As a first step, she would take up the matter with the Collector.
Anandhi Ganesan from the Uppiliyapuram ward pleaded for a road in Kallankuthu-Pananthoppe and Reddiyapatti-Erakudi segments.
