Tiruchi Corporation polls on October 17

The Tiruchi Corporation would also go to the polls in the first phase of local body elections on October 17.

The announcement came after the Madras High Court upheld the merger of the Tiruverumbur Town Panchayat with the Tiruchi Corporation. The notification for the election would be issued on Friday, when filing of nominations would also begin. The last date for filing is October 7.

Last date for withdrawals is October 10.

Five new wards will be added to the Corporation taking the total number to 65.

The new wards are spread over the Tiruverumbur Town Panchayat, and village panchayats of Pappakurichi, Ellakudi, Keezha Kalkandarkottai and Alathur which have been merged with the Corporation.
