Tiruchi art expo brings out talented women artists

The exhibition of paintings by women artists organised by the Department of Art and Culture in the city is a conscious effort to showcase their talents.

Displaying colourful works of different varieties, the exhibition showcases in all 100 paintings by 10 women artists some of whom are drawing and art tutors and school students of Tiruchi.

On display at the ‘Poomalai’ complex, the expo venue, are water colour paintings, pencil drawings, glass paintings, oil paintings and those done using crayon. Tiruchi is one among the five districts identified by the Department of Art and Culture for organising the painting exhibition that will be open to public till April 7. The objective of holding the expo is to provide a platform for the women artists to showcase their innate skills, said R. Gunasekaran, Deputy Director, Department of Art and Culture. Paintings expos have already been conducted at Chennai, Coimbatore, and Tirunelveli with funds provided by the State government.

A workshop on women and art would be held as part of the exhibition which was inaugurated by District Collector Jayashree Muralidharan on Friday.
