Tipsy passenger assaults guard in Vaigai Express

A tipsy passenger was arrested on the charge of assaulting a guard of the Madurai-bound Vaigai express from Chennai when the train was on its way to Tiruchi on Saturday evening.

Railway sources said the accused — S. Masilamani, aged around 50 and a native of Dindigul district, was travelling in the coach meant for the people with disabilities. He caused nuisance to co-passengers under the influence of alcohol and pulled the alarm chain twice between Ariyalur and Lalgudi. The train guard R. Ponraj (59) who asked Masilamani to vacate the coach was allegedly assaulted by the latter. Masilamani was handed over to the Government Railway Police when the train arrived at Tiruchi Junction.
