The Special Court for Prevention of Corruption Act cases on Monday convicted and sentenced a motor vehicle inspector (MVI) to undergo three year imprisonment for demanding and obtaining bribe from a person in 2002. Pronouncing the verdict, Special Judge M. Sridhar imposed fine of Rs.7,500 on the Jai Manohar a MVI with Tiruchi RTO in May 2002.

While convicting and sentencing a tout – Durai- to undergo nine months imprisonment besides slapping fine of Rs. 2,500 on him in the same case, the Judge acquitted another tout Lourde Gerald Santharajan. Acting on a complaint, officers of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti Corruption (DVAC) laid a trap and arrested Jai Manohar for demanding and obtaining Rs. 1,000 as bribe from Shanmuganandham – the complainant.

Manohar demanded the bribe money from Shanmuganandham for carrying out an inspection of his car that was involved in an accident. The DVAC officers named Durai and Lourde Gerald as accused 2 and 3 for acting as the mediators.
