A three-day cultural training programme for schoolteachers was organised at the Corporation Middle School at Subramaniyapuram in the city recently.
The programme, titled “cultural inputs in curriculum teaching”, was organised by the Centre for Cultural Resources and Training (CCRT), Ministry of Culture, New Delhi, in association with the Department of Education, Tamil Nadu.
The programme, which was inaugurated by Collector Jayashree Muralidharan began with a welcome dance that showcased the varied culture of India. Resource person D. Suganthi Daisy Rani, headmistress, TELC Primary School Ponmalaipatti, who had undergone training under CCRT, organised the programme.
Chief Educational Officer, District Elementary Educational Officer, Assistant Elementary Educational Officer, Chairman, TELC Educational Board and SSA (Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan), BRTES teachers working in the district participated in the programme.
The training was imparted through lectures, power point presentations, practical classes (puppet making, handicraft), and science experiments. The objective was to discuss the importance of and review cultural education in schools and to strengthen the understanding of the country’s heritage to promote right values. The event was part of a national initiative by CCRT. The initiative aims at teaching children more about culture, arts, literature, history, and natural resources that would help them grow to be good citizens of the country. Cultural training was first imparted to teachers selected from higher secondary schools, high schools, middle schools, and primary schools for three weeks in New Delhi.
The teachers were trained in philosophy, culture, arts, drawing, music, dance, rural folk, and traditional folk.
They would then train other teachers working in the schools of their district, who will in turn teach children what they have learnt. A total of 46 teachers from Tiruchi district benefitted through the initiative.
