The Railway Board has cleared the decks to operate three new express trains announced in the railway budget 2013-14 from June.
According to an official release from T.R. Baalu, DMK MP and Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Railways, the Mannargudi-Coimbatore Semmozhi Express is scheduled for an inaugural run on June 11. It will leave Mannargudi at 8.10 p.m. and reach Coimbatore at 5 a.m. In return direction, the train will leave Coimbatore at 11.55 p.m. and reach Mannargudi at 7.55 a.m. It will run via Erode, Karur, Tiruchi, Thanjavur, and Needamangalam.
The Karaikudi-Chennai Silambu Express bi-weekly will leave Chennai at 8.20 p.m. and reach Karaikudi by 6.10 a.m. on Wednesdays and Saturdays. In return direction, the train leaves Karaikudi at 10 p.m. and reach Chennai at 6.05 a.m. on Thursdays and Sundays. It will run via Pudukottai, Tiruchi, Virudhachalam and Villupuram. The service is likely to be inaugurated on June 22.
The Velankanni link Express (Kamban) from Chennai will leave at 11.15 p.m. and reach Velankanni by 7.45 a.m. In return, the train will leave Velankanni at 8.45 p.m. and reach Chennai at 5.25 a.m. It will run via Nagapattinam, Thiruvarur, Mayiladuthurai, and Vilupuram. The new link express is likely to be inaugurated on June 22.
