Three persons were arrested in connection with the fire that gutted the Sandhana Koodu made for the Kandhuri festival of the Nagore Dargah here on Sunday. Mohammad Askim, 30, Mohammad Akbar Khader, 31, and Mustafa Kamaal, 30, were arrested after police investigation revealed their involvement in the fire, which was caused to sabotage the Kandhuri Sadhana Koodu procession.

In the early hours of Friday, the Sandana Koodu, which was being prepared at a private shed, was found partially gutted. The police ruled out short circuit as the cause.

The accused were rounded up after enquiries led the police to anonymous posters that had come up opposing the Sandana Koodu procession.

The procession of Sandhana Koodu, mounted on a cart, through the streets of Nagapattinam, leading up to the Dargah at Nagore, will mark the culmination of the Kandhuri festival.
