A large number of devotees offered worship to Namperumal on the occasion of Chithirai car festival at Srirangam on Sunday.

This is one of the important annual festivals being celebrated at the temple when the processional idol of Namperumal is taken by the temple car around the Chithirai streets around the temple.

Early in the day, Namperumal was brought from the sanctum sanctorum to the temple car where rituals were performed for sometime. At about 6 a.m., amidst religious fervour, devotees pulled the car.

Temple honours

It is during this Chithirai festival that the temple honours are sent from Sri Andal temple in Srivilliputhur to the Srirangam temple marking the devotion of Sri Andal and Sri Renganathar. Accordingly, garland and holy ‘vastram’ were adorned to Namperumal on Saturday, on the eve of the car festival.

Adequate arrangements were made for the smooth conduct of the festival.
