The grand car procession, the most attractive and important event of the annual festival currently on at Shrine Basilica of Our Lady of Health, Velankanni, was held on Wednesday night with a large number of devotees offering their worship.

Seven cars

A row of seven illuminated cars was taken out, one behind the other, during the procession and Our Lady of Health, clad in a silk sari, was taken in the last and the biggest car in the row.

Bishop of Thanjavur Most Rev M. Devadass Ambrose presided over a Concelebrated Holy mass earlier in the day.

Only women

A salient feature of the procession was that only women devotees were allowed to pull the first car in the procession.

The 11-day annual festival will conclude on September 8 when special mass will be organised from 6 a.m. and the holy flag will be lowered in the evening marking the conclusion of the festival.
