The three-day The Hindu Young World Fest 2010 – an inter- school cultural and literary festival – will be held in the city commencing October 21.

The second edition of the event planned on a larger scale promises to offer a unique opportunity for the students to rate their own potential in the comity of competitive peers.

The event will be held at the MD Hall on the BHEL campus.

The festival will feature three categories of group dance competitions – Indian Classical, Indian Folk and Indian Popular and Film /Western.

Besides, elocution, debate, garland making, flower arrangement, ceramic tile painting, collage/poster designing and cartooning contests will also form part of the festival.

The competitions are for students of standard V to X and will be held in the categories of juniors, seniors and open.

Entries are open for schools from 11 districts – Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur, Tiruchi, Pudukottai, Perambalur, Ariyalur, Karur, Salem, Erode, Namakkal – and Karaikal.

Preliminary rounds

Preliminary rounds of the group dance (Indian Classical, Indian Popular, film/Western) and elocution will be held on October 21.

Preliminary round for group dance (Indian folk) and debate will be held on October 22.

The grand finale for all the contests will be held on October 23.

The topics for elocution are ‘Unity in Diversity' (for prelims) and ‘Incredible India' (for finals).

The topics for debate are ‘Does television have a negative influence on society' (for prelims) and ‘Coalition government is the only solution for our democracy' (for finals).

Sponsors

BHEL, Tiruchi Complex, is the title sponsor for the event. The Punjab National Bank, SASTRA University and Anand Engineering are the associate sponsors. The South Zone Cultural Centre, Thanjavur, also associates itself as a sponsor. Ayyan Fireworks, Classic Foods, Voyager Electronics and Black Thunder Water Theme Park are the co-sponsors.

Registration

Registration is free. Students can register only through school. The last date for registration has been extended till October 10. More information could be obtained from The Hindu , Tiruchi office by dialling 0431-2302801.
