The three-day The Hindu Young World Fest 2009– an inter school cultural and literary festival – will be held in the city commencing October 8.

This is for the first time that The Hindu is organising such a cultural and literary festival for school students in Tiruchi.

The event will be held at the MD Hall in BHEL campus.

Categories

The festival will feature three categories of group dance competitions – Indian Classical, Indian Folk and Indian Popular and Film /Western.

Besides, elocution, debate, garland making, flower arrangement, ceramic tile painting, collage/poster designing and cartooning contests will also form part of the festival.

The competitions are for students of standard V to X and will be held in the categories of ‘juniors,’ ‘seniors’ and ‘open.’

Over 1,200 students from 63 schools from 11 districts – Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur, Tiruchi, Pudukottai, Perambalur, Ariyalur, Karur, Salem and Namakkal and Karaikal have registered so far.

Preliminary rounds

Preliminary rounds of the group dance (Indian Classical, Indian Popular, film/Western) and elocution will be held on October 8. Preliminary round for group dance (Indian folk) and debate will be held on October 9.

Grand finale

The grand finale for all the contests will be held on October 10. BHEL, Tiruchi Complex, is the title sponsor for the event.
