Eye catching textiles procured from various parts of the country, worth over Rs. 15 lakhs have been displayed at the annual Deepavali textiles exhibition organised by the Tamil Nadu Handicrafts Development Corporation Limited which commenced at its Poompuhar showroom in the city on Wednesday.

The famous Madurai sungadi sarees, Kerala cotton, Bengal silk cotton, Jaipur cotton, Andhra silk cotton, Chettinadu cotton, Kacheepuram cotton sarees, white dhotis etc are on display at the exhibition. Moreover bed spreads, pillow covers, sofa covers, carpets, embroidery table cloth and all of Rajasthan have also found a place in the expo.

The brass lamps and panchaloha idols made in the Corporation’s manufacturing units at Madurai and Vagaikulam, Thanjavur art plates, wooden handicrafts, panchaloha bangles, American diamond jewellery, wall panels, handicrafts and gift articles of Moradabad are an added attraction.

According to the Manager of the Poompuhar Showroom, K. Chidambaranathan, consumers can get textiles ranging from Rs. 50 to Rs. 10,000 at the expo. A sales target of Rs. Five lakhs has been fixed for this year’s exhibition. A similar exhibition held during last Deepavali season fetched a sales turnover of Rs. 4.5 lakhs, against a target of Rs. Four lakhs, he added.

The exhibition, which was inaugurated by the secretary, Cauvery College for Women, K. Rangarajan, will conclude on October 16
