The State government plans to distribute textbooks and uniforms among students on June 1, first day of school reopening.
For Tiruchi district, the School Education Department has received textbooks and notebooks for all students studying in Government, aided, Adi Dravidar Welfare schools, corporation, and other schools.
N. Anandi, Chief Educational Officer who held a meeting with the senior officials on ways and means for distribution, told The Hindu that the stage was set for distribution of textbooks on the day of reopening to eligible students.
Textbooks for classes 1 to 12 (with the exception of class 11) had been received from the Tamil Nadu Textbook Society.
They had been sorted out and despatched to the respective schools in the district. It was estimated that about 2.5 lakh students would receive the free textbooks.
The textbooks for Plus One students will be distributed shortly.
There were about 1,500 government and aided schools, including primary and middle, in the district. The Head Masters of the schools had been asked to ensure smooth distribution of textbooks to all children. They were asked to send a compliance report after completing the task on the same day, Ms. Anandi said.
Uniforms
Similarly, she said the district had received a set of uniforms to all eligible students. The beneficiaries, who had noon-meal in chools, would automatically become eligible for receiving free uniforms. It was expected that 1,63,855 students would receive uniforms.
They would be distributed on the same day of school reopening.
