Two hundiyals, one before Sri Thyagarajaswamy and another before the Navagrahas, were looted at Sri Thyagarajaswamy temple at Tiruvarur on Sunday.
The Hundiyals were found broken open by the temple employees in the morning. A complaint was lodged with Tiruvarur town police. A.K.Senthilvelan,Superintendent of Police, Thanjavur district who is in charge of Tiruvarur district visited the temple. Police suspect that the culprits might have stayed overnight in the temple and escaped in the morning. Police are investigating.
Flying Squads formed
Three flying squads have been formed to nab the culprits involved in the looting.
The SP visited the temple and inspected the places of occurance. He later told presspersons that there are 11 hundiyals in the temple out of which two have been looted. The culprits have taken away the cash and left the coins in the broken Hundiyals. The cash looted must be around rs 5000. "We suspect the crime should have occured around 3.30 a.m. Finger prints have been taken and dog squad has been pressed into service. One of the accused in the theft that occured in the temple in 2006 is in prison and another is being interrogated, the SP said.
