Teachers should strive for overall development of student community by imparting values and virtues to them, said M.S. Muthusamy, Superintendent of Police, Pudukottai.
Speaking after conferring the ‘Best Teacher' award instituted by the Kavirasan Trust, a service organisation here recently, Mr. Muthusamy said that teachers' responsibility did not just stop at strengthening the students with academic knowledge. They should develop a sense of discipline among students and should initiate them in a righteous path .
Mr. Muthusamy recalled the assistance he got from his college professor, Krishnasamy. Emphasising the responsibilities of teaching community, he appreciated the efforts made by the Trust in honouring the teachers. “Society, on its part, has a responsibility in honouring teachers who strive for the welfare of students,” he said.
The Managing trustee, K. Shanmuganathan, said the Trust had honoured 31 teachers in the past five years. He explained the norms followed for the selection of the teachers for the award. Apart from in-service teachers, even those who retired recently were honoured in recognition of their service in the cause of the student community.
K. Murugabarathi, Joint managing trustee, read out the citation on five awardees N. Parameswaran, former teacher of the Samskrita Vidyalaya Oriental High school; K. Muthu, former headmaster of the Panchayat union primary school in Vandakottai; K. Ramaiah, Headmaster, Government High School, Erukalakottai; A. Ruby Getsy Jeevamuthakumari, teacher of TELC Higher secondary school and V. Sekar, Headmaster of the Government High school, Mankadu.
R. Sampathkumar, president of Tiruvarul Peravai; Malaiyappan, general secretary of Tirukkural Peravai and Ramukannu, secretary of Ponmari group of educational institutions were among those who offered felictations.
