A total of 437 members, including 356 women of the Joint Action Council of Tamil Nadu Teachers’ Organisations (JACTTO), were arrested when they attempted to stage a road roko here on Saturday in support of their demands.

They were highlighting 15-point charter of demands including salary on a par with the Union government teachers, addressing Sixth Pay Commission discrimination, implementation of Tamil-medium education from primary to secondary education in all schools in the State, scrapping teacher eligibility test, and appointing teachers based on seniority.

They were prevented by the police when they attempted to stage road roko on Collector’s office road. All of them were released in the evening.
