TASMAC load men demand wage hike

A section of members of the TASMAC Godown Load men Association, Tiruchi district, staged a demonstration in Tiruchi on Tuesday in support of their charter of demands. The demonstrators urged the TASMAC authorities to increase their wages for unloading boxes containing liquor bottles.

They wanted the wages to be increased from Rs. 2.50 to Rs. 5 for unloading each box and from Rs. 5 to Rs. 8 for unloading every two-tier box.

They urged the authorities to direct the contractors to provide them Rs. 2 as wage for loading every box. Issue of identity cards to load men working in various TASMAC godowns akin to the ones provided to their counterparts in Dindigul and Kanyakumari districts, grant of 20 per cent bonus to them similar to the ones given to load men working in Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation godowns, issue of ESI cards to load men for availing of ESI medical facility, rest room with basic amenities, declaring Sundays as weekly off for the load men were among their other demands. The demonstration held near the Collectorate was led by V. Gunasekaram, state coordination committee member, Tiruchi region.
