The Tamil National Law School, Tiruchi and the National Law University, Delhi have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to forge a linkage between them.

The MoU would pave the way for exchange of teaching faculty members and students between the two legal institutions, N. Murugavel, Vice Chancellor, The Tamil Nadu National Law School (TNNLS), Tiruchi said here on Sunday.

This was the first time that the TNNLS had entered into a MoU with a top legal institution, Mr. Murugavel told reporters on the sidelines of an orientation programme for the first year students of the institution here. Faculty members from the National Law University, Delhi would take classes for the students of the TNNLS every semester on certain specialised subjects, he added.

The TNNLS had plans to sign a memorandum of understanding with an international university in the near future, Mr. Murugavel said.

The TNNLS is the first national level institution in the state to disseminate knowledge of law, legal processes and advocacy in tune with the changing global scenario.

Earlier, speaking at the orientation programme Prof. Ranbir Singh, Vice Chancellor, National Law University, Delhi exhorted the first year students to perform well in the field they had chosen.

He called upon the students to be technically sound, professionally competent and more importantly socially relevant.

The National Law University, Delhi would provide all necessary support to the Tiruchi Law School, he added.

Mr. Murugavel said the TNNLS had achieved many things in a short period. Introduction of B.Com LLB (Hons) course in the second year of the institution’s existence and joining the Common Law Admission Test family were among the achievements, he added. Prof. S. Sachidhanandam, Visiting Professor, National Law University Delhi spoke. Students planted saplings in the institution premises later.
