All schools will remain closed tomorrow here in the wake of a depression and heavy rain forecast for the district. Collector T. Munusamy told The Hindu that rainfall predictions stood as high as 25 c.m. and the landfall of the cyclone is predicted to be near the district.
The administration has geared to handle the cyclone fallout. Cyclone shelters have already been opened and embankments are being monitored, Mr. Munusamy said. Cyclone warning sign number 3 was hoisted here at the port office. However, Friday remained cloudy and overcast with drizzle.
KARAIKAL: The district administration has set up community shelters and central kitchens in all coastal and interior villages.
Collector A. Muthamma told The Hindu that a disaster support apparatus has been put in place in the event of potential damage.
“We have acted upon the bulletins received from the State Emergency Operations Centre that has pegged the wind speed between 40 kmph and 60 kmph with forecast for heavy rain from Friday night. The district administration has ordered closure of all schools on Saturday,” she said.

Further, fisherfolk have been issued a warning not to venture into the sea, and those out in the sea have been asked to return to the shore.
The Collector has summoned all officials, who have gone on leave to report back to duty immediately, and no leave shall be granted to officials till November 18.
TIRUVARUR: The district administration is in a state of preparedness to meet any eventuality, said S. Natarajan, Collector.
In a release, the Collector said taluk-level teams have been formed to co-ordinate relief works with the District Revenue Officer.
Relief shelters like marriage halls and schools have been identified.
PUDUKOTTAI: Fishermen have been warned on Friday not to venture into the sea till Saturday.
Fishermen from Jegadapattinam and Kottaipattinam remained indoors.
