A 15-day summer camp to impart training to school students on fine arts commenced at the K.A.P. Viswanatham Higher Secondary School in the city recently. The camp is being organised by the Jawahar Bala Bhavan.

Training is being imparted to participating students in Yoga, Bharathanatyam, Classical vocal, painting and gymnasium by tutors of the respective disciplines.

Yoga class is being conducted for all the participating students for one hour during the course of the camp which concludes on May 5. A total number of 48 students have enrolled in the summer camp, says R. Gunasekaran, Regional Assistant Director, Department of Art and Culture.

Best students would be selected for the State-level summer camp to be held at Yelagiri Hills in Vellore district from May 20–29.

Former students of Government Music School, Tiruchi are imparting training to the participating students in Bharathanatyam and Classical vocal at the camp.

The Jawahar Bala Bhavan has been organising summer camp every year ever since it started functioning in 1997, says Mr. Gunasekaran adding that similar camp was also being organised at Pudukottai. In Perambalur, the camp starts from May 1.

The objective of organising the camp was to bring out the latent talents of the students. Certificates would be distributed to each participant after completion of the camp, Mr. Gunasekaran said.
