A section of villagers of Chinnagoundampatti near Puthanatham resorted to a road blockade on the Thuvarankurichi-Manapparai road on Wednesday condemning a Sub Inspector of Police for allegedly assaulting a villager. Police sources said a tiff broke out between Balasubramani and Manibala of the same village over land issue with both approaching the Puthanatham police station to complain against each other on Tuesday.

Sub Inspector Yogarathinam is said to have compromised them and sent the two back. Some time later, Balasubramani and Manibala returned back to the police station accusing each other of assaulting them.

Irked over this, the Sub Inspector allegedly assaulted Balasubramani who felt ashamed over this and informed his companions.

The sources said a group of villagers blocked the Thuvarankurichi – Manapparai road for about 30 minutes condemning the Sub Inspector for allegedly assaulting Balasubramani. The road roko prompted the Manapparai Deputy Superintendent of Police to rush to the spot to pacify the angry villagers. The protestors gave up their stir following an assurance that necessary action would be taken.
