Student members of road safety patrol units of various schools in and around Tiruchi were exposed to various aspects of road safety, traffic rules, and regulations, at a parade organised at E.R.Higher Secondary School in the city on Saturday.

About 25 students each from about 30 schools from Tiruchi participated in the camp, which included drill sessions.

The camp included sessions on various aspects of road traffic, traffic rules, and safety measures by officers from the traffic police, Regional Transport Authority, and traffic wardens, said Augustine Alby, deputy chief traffic warden.

The road safety patrol units were also oriented to traffic regulation methods so that they could be deployed in front of their schools to regulate traffic during school hours, whenever required.

Mr.Alby said essay writing, painting, quiz, and elocution contest would soon be organised as part of the Road Safety Week observation.

S.Ponnumalai, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Traffic, inaugurated the camp.
