School students of Pudukottai district had an unique opportunity of getting basic training in drawing and painting, thanks to the Government Museum here.

The Museum had organised a six-day special camp in drawing and painting from May 13 to 18 in connection with the International Museum Day celebration.

C. Govindaraj, Curator of Government Museum, Pudukottai, told ?The Hindu' on Tuesday that as many as 120 school students, including about 80 girls, from first to twelfth standard underwent the training. Mr. Govindaraj distributed certificates to the participants at the valediction held at the museum premises on Tuesday.

The training was provided by professional artistes Ayyappa and Rajappa brothers of Pudukottai for the students depending on their capacity on various types of drawing and painting.

Mr. Ayyappa said that the students were given training in line drawing with pencil, finger impression sketch drawing, sand drawing and colour painting, etc. Most of the drawings were on landscape, natural scenes which were easy to learn for the children, he said.

He pointed out that all the students showed great interest and expressed their talents through drawing and painting of natural scenery. The small kids were given training in drawing of fruits, flowers and pets like cat, dogs. He said that it would take more time to give training on drawing of various animals, people in action, and pointed out that the six-day camp was very useful to the school children during this summer vacation.
