Students display their pedalling power in Tiruchi

Over 150 students displayed their pedalling power at the district-level cycling competition held here on Sunday in connection with the birth anniversary celebrations of former Chief Minister C.N.Annadurai.

The competition organised by the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu, Tiruchi, was conducted in three age categories – under-17, under-15, and under-13 – for boys and girls. S. Manickam, Assistant Commandant, Tamil Nadu Special Police, inaugurated the contest in the presence of P.Kalaiselvan, district sports and youth welfare officer.

For boys in the under-17 and under-15 categories, the race was for 20 km and for those below 13 years of age, the race was for 15 km. The girls, who competed in the under-17 and under-15 age categories, covered a distance of 15 km, while those who participated in the under-13 category pedalled a distance of 10 km.

S.Madhan Kumar of Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Thottiyam, and E.Bhuvaneswari of Government HSS, Somarasampettai, bagged the top spot in the under-17 boys’ and girls’ sections respectively. In the under-15 category, P.Ananth of Government Boys HSS, Thottiyam, and E.Yoga Priyaa of Government HSS, Somarasampettai, emerged victorious in the boys’ and girls’ sections respectively. S. Praveen of Sowdambika MHSS and J.Aiswarya of Srirangam Girls HSS were the winners in the under-13 boys’ and girls’ sections respectively.

D.Chandrasekar, president, Tiruchi District Cycling Association, and P.Ratnagiri, secretary, gave away the prizes.
