A group of students owing allegiance to Students Federation of India (SFI) on Tuesday staged a road blockade agitation on Tiruchi-Dindigul Road, urging the National College management to collect fee structure as announced by the government.

On information, the police rushed to the spot and arrested 39 students, some of whom were studying in National College. Tension prevailed for sometime when the police forcefully took the students in vehicles.

Implementation of government orders on scholarship, creation of adequate infrastructure facilities and repayment of excess fee were among the demands.

All of them were released in the evening. Meanwhile, K. Anbarasan, Principal, National College, told presspersons that no excess fee had been collected from those studying in aided courses.

They had paid fee stipulated by the government. As far as the unaided courses were concerned, the college had fixed a reasonable fee structure than other colleges in the city. The order on fee structure in science and arts colleges was awaited.

Out of 3,750 students, a few misguided students were indulging in activities against the welfare of the students and the college.

Disciplinary action would be taken against them, he said.
