Students and villages asked to use libraries

The people of Perambalur donated five cents of land for the construction of a rural library here and handed over the documents to the Collector M. Vijayakumar at the 42nd national library week celebrations here on Friday.

Presiding over the celebrations, the Collector said that 23 persons became life members of the district central library by paying Rs.1,000 each and they had also presented the portraits of Jawaharlal Nehru and poet Bharthidasan for the library.

The Collector appealed to the school students and villagers to make use of the libraries built in all the panchayats under the Anaithu Grama Anna Marumalarchi Thittam and pointed out that a number of useful and rare books were kept in these libraries.

Mr. Vijayakumar also witnessed a ‘kaviarangam’ organised in connection with the celebrations. Pulavar Sembiyan introduced the new books at the function. Perambalur district panchayat president Kodiyarsi Duraisamy, municipal chairman N. Ilayaraja, District Library Officer (in-charge) A. Srinivasan and others spoke.
