“Strict action against those resorting to manual scavenging”

Septic tank operators should discharge the effluent water only at the places notified by the City Corporation and the hotel owners and marriage hall owners should not directly let the sewage waters into the underground drainage, said A. Jaya, Mayor.

Addressing the representatives of the marriage halls, septic tank owners, the Mayor said they should not directly discharge the sullage water into the underground drainage system. Adequate arrangement for separating waste and solid materials should be provided, she said. The sullage waters should be discharged only at the sewage treatment plant of the City Corporation

N.S. Prema, Corporation Commissioner, in her power point presentation, said that strict action would be taken against those resorting to manual scavenging. Adequate safety gadgets should be provided to the workers involved in cleaning of septic tanks.

The design of the septic tanks should also be in conformity with the prescribed rules, she said.
