Construction work of rajagopuram of Samayapuram Sri Mariamman Temple at a cost of Rs.75 lakh has begun with the erection of stone poles at the temple on Friday.

The five-tier rajagopuram is part of the expansion of prakaram and additional amenities being executed for devotees at the temple.

The work on Kalkaram , the base of rajagopuram, is expected to be completed by the end of the month, according to temple sources.

The expansion of the prakaram would facilitate accommodation of a large number of devotees gathering at the temple on festival days and during new moon day, Fridays, and Sundays.

The work on the construction of Amavasai Mandapam at an estimate of Rs. 6.10 crore is nearing completion.

The sprawling 25,000-sq.feet facility would be a big attraction for devotees.
