Seven stone idols were found at Ottakudi hamlet near Sarkarpalayam village on Kallanai Road near Tiruchi on Saturday. Four of the idols were of Goddess Amman – two in standing posture, two others in seated posture – two idols were of Sri Nandhi and a Siva Lingam.

The five-foot-tall Amman idol in standing posture is the largest of the seven. The smaller idol in standing posture is three-foot tall. The smallest idol of Amman in sitting posture is one foot high. Finely carved necklace, a ‘haaram’, and other ornaments adorn the idols. The eyes have been intricately carved.

Among the two idols of Sri Nandhi, one is partly damaged. Similarly, the Lingam too is damaged. The people of the village who noticed the idols lying on the roadside alerted the Village Administrative Officer who shifted them to Tiruverumbur police station. As news spread, a large number of people turned up at the police station to have a glimpse of the idols.
