Steps afoot to ensure regular water supply during summer

‘Ensure supply of 7 million litres per day from 10 overhead tanks’

The district administration has initiated steps for ensuring regular drinking water supply during summer .

The Collector, Jayashree Muralidharan, inspected the functioning of various drinking water projects in different parts of the district on Tuesday.

Accompanied by V.P.Thandapani, Corporation Commissioner, and other senior officials, she inspected the head pumping station at Alavanthan bathing ghat in Srirangam. The officials explained the functioning of the pumping station to the Collector, who also inspected the quality of water being supplied.

She directed the officials to ensure regular supply of seven MLD (million litres per day) from the 10 overhead tanks .

Ms.Muralidharan inspected the works on the construction of overhead tank of three-lakh litre capacity in Sirugamani town panchayat (Rs.40 lakhs) and digging of source well to supply water to this tank (Rs. 60 lakhs).

An open well has been dug up in Nagalapuram village in Thuraiyur block (Rs. 5 lakhs) and a borewell has been sunk in Velayuthampalayam village in K.Palayam panchayat (Rs.3 lakhs) under the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund. The Collector inspected both the works and directed the block development officials to ensure regular supply of water to the villages.

S.Ramasamy, project director, District Rural Development Agency, and R.Chandran, City Engineer, were present.
