The upcoming Navaratri festival will be incomplete without the customary tradition of kolu. There is an unspoken competition among many families on putting up the most attractive kolu. What better way to make your kolu stand out, than by displaying beautiful dolls that are the latest in the market? You can choose from a wide collection of kolu dolls, fashioned out of cloth, wire, papier mache , marble, clay, soap stone, and more at the exclusive exhibition at the Poompuhar showroom in the city. The “Dasara kolu dolls” exhibition, which was inaugurated on Wednesday, has a lot to offer for those looking for new models of dolls for their kolu as well as art lovers and the creatively inclined.

The speciality of the exhibition is the exquisitely crafted newly introduced Ramayana set. There are 34 sets, depicting different chapters of the epic. The 16 sets currently on display can be purchased for Rs. 30,000. Other new dolls introduced this year include the Varalakshmi vratam set, Vikramaditya, Maya Bazaar set, Ulagalandaperumal, and Jyothilingam set.

An innovative new entrant this year is the Thiruvilayadal set, which has dolls depicting the different avatars of the late actor Sivaji Ganesan in the movie of the same name. The Varadarajar Perumal Koil palli (lizard) collection depicts the famous location with the same name at the Kancheepuram temple.

Dolls from different parts of Tamil Nadu such as Madurai, Kancheepuram, Puducherry, Dindivanam, and Thanjavur are on display, apart from those made in Manipur, Rajasthan and West Bengal. Poompuhar expects a sale of Rs. 12 lakh from the exhibition. The price range of the items on display ranges from Rs. 50 to Rs. 30,000.

The 25-day exhibition will be conducted on all days from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. till October 12.
