The State Rural Livelihood Mission was launched in the district on Monday. The scheme aims to improve the standard of living of families living below poverty line (BPL).
After an enumeration, clusters would be formed in all the panchayat unions. Persons from BPL families would be given interest subsidy on loan for income generating activities.
Special camps would be organized to create awareness among the members of the SHGs on the procedures for getting the loans.
District officials will conduct co-ordination meeting with bank officials, representatives of NGOs and block development officers to assess the number of SHGs for whom bank loans were sanctioned.
Officials of Mahalir Thittam will ensure proper utilization of loan by self-help groups.
In the first phase, the programme is to be implemented in the Perungalur cluster with 15 village panchayats.
At a function to mark its inauguration, C. Manoharan, District Collector, gave away the cheque worth Rs. 4.65 lakh to the village panchayat presidents under Perungalur cluster.
He also flagged off a mobile team which will be campaigning in the villages to sensitise the masses.
